I have three teens, 12, 14, and 15. Their to old for most summer camp programs and I don't just want them sitting on the sofa. We live to far in the country for them to go down the road to talk to a friend. ANY IDEAS?Whats a good activity for my children to do this summer while Im at work?
They're teens. They will find something to do they won't sit there and be bored all day long,i promise you.Just don't even worry about it too much.Maybe have one of each of their friends come over.Whats a good activity for my children to do this summer while Im at work?
I don't know if they are all boys or girls or what their interests are so I will just throw some stuff out that my kids have enjoyed.
icamp - online learning for robotics, game design and digital photography
teach them to cook
archery
get them a dog to train - foster a guide puppy
foster baby kittens
latch hook a rug
have weekly fashion shows
teach them to sew
build a half pipe
build 2x4 furniture
build a wall
Basically, find something that sparks their interest or will build them up physically or in character. If they are interested they will do it. If they say they are not interested, force them, bribe them, encourage them or trick them. They may not say thank you but their summer will be richer for it.
I support you trying to help your kids to have a productive summer.
If you live in the country, why not get some type of low maintenance farm animal (if you don't already). It will keep them occupied and they will learn about responsibility and animal husbandry at the same time. A small garden (it's not too late to start one).....we're learning a new language this summer, maybe that would interest them?
The 14 and 15 year old can legally work at a florist, babysitting, mow lawns, camp counselor, etc.
The 12 year old isn't too old for camp. Find interests that they have- dance, soccer, etc and sign them up.
