The Republicans already came to a ';compromised'; package which means they've voluntarily grabbed their ankles and asked for the shaft. Bunch of spineless cowards.
As for the stimulus -- doesn't anyone find it strange that Obama said the package was too big and filled with too much ';pork'; during the interview w/ Lauer during the Super Bowl -- this before the Senate added 13.5 billion dollars to it?

I'll be honest though, I think the Republicans are taking advantage of Obama's desire to be bi-partisan. They don't have the votes to block any legislation and if they get to demanding, they risk losing any concessions. In the meantime, the American people are suffering while all this bickering and debating is taking place.
Obama has been working on it for WEEKS. Where have you been? BTW, he doesn't have to be in Washington to work on it, genius. He's not going to the end of the Earth. Ever hear of telephones, computers, fax machines?

Weight loss question- will this work?
I've recently gained 14 lbs(since Jan) and the birth of my 3rd child. I've started walking 2 miles per day(during my lunch hour) I have no specific diet- just trying to cut way back. Eating salads with some meat for lunch, a small portion at dinner and 100 cal snacks twice per day. Is this enough to lose a significant amount of weight - I would love to lose 30 lbs.Weight loss question- will this work?
As you know, your energy (including stored energy...aka body fat) is measured in calories. It doesnt matter where you get your calories - as long as you get them.
The trick is to not cut too drastically. You need energy, especially with 3 kids! Try to figure out what your real energy (calorie) requirement is first. It's based on your current weight, your ';resting metabolic rate';, and your current activity level, including your workouts. This is how many calories you and your body need to be happy. This will ';sustain'; your current weight. To burn more then you consume, you either workout longer/harder, or reduce calories by a small number. Such as 250-500.
Our bodies use carbs and fats as our primary source of energy. If we arent consuming the energy, we store it for later. This is why it's important to figure out how much we need FIRST, and consume only this much, or a little less. A diet that is mostly protein based, then carbs, then fat helps. Such as 40% protein, 30% carbs, 30% fats (unsaturated please).
I never recommend any drastic calorie cutting diets. The body reacts to this differently then many people think. It will see that it's not getting it's ';normal'; level of energy, and will reduce the energy demand by lowering your metabolic rate, reduce your muscle size, alter your mood, and hold onto body fat long and hard. Pretty much exactly what you don't want.
Work with your body. Use small reductions, and increasing burn rates. Recaluate your calorie needs as you reduce weight. Lower weight means doesnt need as much energy. Your body will keep up with your workouts using stored enegry -- but again, as long as it has enough daily calories. This is one of thr reasons why most diets fail. The other is that people are so concerned about loosing the pounds, that they forget about the most important factor -- how to keep them off! This always seems to be a second step - when it really should be the FIRST step.

If you want to lose that much weight, try doing a low-carb diet. I lost 85 lbs after the birth of our daughter in a year, but I also combined it with cardio 5 days per week. I have kept it off for a year so far!! I certainly didn't gain that much weight during pregnancy but was in need of losing weight in general. I'm such a health nut now and I feel fantastic and look better than I did in high school and I don't feel deprived on low-carb. I don't think of it as a diet though, but a change in my eating behavior. I still treat myself now and then, but the only difference is, I know when to stop!! Good luck!!
EDIT: What also encouraged me was a chart I hung on the wall to track my exercise. I could see it while doing my cardio and I always tried to beat my last calorie burn even if by 10 calories. It pushed me and it just worked for me.
You might not lose 30 lbs but it'll definately help you lose some of it. Make sure you eat 3 meals a day and a couple snacks. Those 100 cal snack packs don't offer much nutrition though. I'd suggest yogurt or a piece of fruit or something. Just make sure your caloric intake is under what you're daily burn is but not more than 600 calories less otherwise you're body'll slip into starvation mode and you'll start losing muscle and not fat.

If you want to accomplish your goal I would suggest walking and then also working out for additional 30 minutes every day. If your snack is packages it a bad idea, to have a more natural snack, a fruit would be ideal. Also I would suggest to drink a full glass of water before you eat.

This is why it's important to figure out how much we need FIRST, and consume only this much, or a little less. A diet that is mostly protein based, then carbs, then fat helps. I'm such a health nut now and I feel fantastic and look better than I did in high school and I don't feel deprived on low-carb. I don't think of it as a diet though, but a change in my eating behavior. I still treat myself now and then, but the only difference is, I know when to stop!! Good luck!!
EDIT: What also encouraged me was a chart I hung on the wall to track my exercise. I could see it while doing my cardio and I always tried to beat my last calorie burn even if by 10 calories. It pushed me and it just worked for me.
You might not lose 30 lbs but it'll definately help you lose some of it. Make sure you eat 3 meals a day and a couple snacks. Those 100 cal snack packs don't offer much nutrition though. I'd suggest yogurt or a piece of fruit or something. Just make sure your caloric intake is under what you're daily burn is but not more than 600 calories less otherwise you're body'll slip into starvation mode and you'll start losing muscle and not fat.

You cant just walk and expect to loose weight. You have to raise your heart rate. So I would suggest jogging at the minimum.
You need to eat enough calories to fuel your workouts. And by workout I mean actual cardio (no, not walking).

Use ovulation prediction kits starting about 7 days before you expect to ovulate. Then when you get a positive start having sex because you should ovulate in the next 12-36 hours. However, you can download Adium to go to chat rooms which is for mac users. you will have to type in always the name of the room and the room number... example: Gardening:1--Chat or Trivia Madness!:1--Chat ... type it EXactly like that with --Chat ... everything must be like it appears from when you used windows chat. Also... getting into chat rooms is difficult lately especially with Adium and you might even have to retry 5 or 6 times. I really wish yahoo did not get rid of java but bill gates has such a monopoly on windows with yahoo and the competition with macs. Good Luck ( you'll probably never get a virus with a Mac though... Like, if you attack a monster whose effect can be used at anytime, they don't want to negate it forever by just one attack and so it'll only work during the battlephase.

If your hill is too much of a grade then all of the water you apply will run down and have virtually no benefit to your garden. Just make sure you make your rows across the hill (like steps going up), do not make your rows up and down. If your hill is south-facing that would be ideal as you would get the best sun exposure assuming it is not so heavily wooded that your hill gets practically no sun at all ! Most vegetables require at least 8 -10 hours of direct sunlight per day. If your hill does not get this much sun you might want to find a better place or try container gardening on a sunny deck. Also certain plants do not like to grow near Walnut or Butternut trees because of a toxin called Juglans. You might find it helpful to pick up a book on beginning gardening from the bookstore. The best thing to do is to call your County Extension office. They will be able to answer all of your questions and have information specific to your area. Most of all, don't be intimidated, have fun! Gardening is a lifelong learning experience that can be very gratifying.
Obviously the trees will hamper growth as vegetables need sunlight. I built my large garden right into the side of the mountain behind my house! As luck would have it the slope is south facing... you might have a bit more trouble if your site faces north.
Anyway, I shaped the slope into flat terraces (think stairs... the steeper your slope the narrower your terraces need to be) and to prevent runnoff I shored up the fronts of them with plastic corrugated greenhouse roofing cut into strips (easily done with scissors). These corrugated strips are pushed a little way into the ground and held in place by pounding lengths of 1/2'; PVC pipe (this is inexpensive and can be cut quickly with a hacksaw) about two feet into the ground directly in front of the lengths of corrugated. I built stone steps up the middle for easy access.
This method has really worked well for me. My garden has great light and drainage. The one big drawback is that all the soil ammendments, tools, harvest, etc. need to be carried up and down by hand as my hill is too steep for a wheelbarrow. But I just think of it as good excercise!

I found this recipe and it's ideal for me to make. We want to make some beer before everyone goes back to college but we dont have 3-4 weeks like other recipes take. this one says it will take 6-10 days to be ready to drink. Will this work or not?

Does this Facebook application really work?
A couple of weeks ago, I saw some friends join a group that allowed them to see who viewed their photos when they entered the link in the group description. I think it's gone now, but I was wondering if that application really did work? Cause I'm pretty sure that that violates the rules.Does this Facebook application really work?
I am almost 100% certain when I say it doesn't work. The only way I can imagine it working is if both parties involved have the application installed, and even then I'd consider it unlikely.

so one night my boy/f's cell phone rings.. he doesnt hear it but i did.. then there was a voice mail. and when my boyfriend was in the shower i checked it.. I dont think you have anything to be worrid about. There is always some drunk girl that wants attention from somebody elses man because she cant get it herself from anybody. Obviously, she knows that you are his girlfriend, and she had another guy with her that could have possibly been her boyfriend or something. I wouldnt be worried if i were you, im assuming she didnt say anything like, ';oh the sex last night was great'; ';so when are you leaving your girlfriend for me'; because if she did say any of that, yes that would give you reason to worry. But by her saying ';shes not good enough for you'; that just shows that shes jealous and wants what you have. You need to trust your boyfriend that he wont do anything, because this girl could be all over him like white on rice, and he would probably say no, he cant help if some girl calls him drunk at night, and if he really wanted to hide something from you he would have taken his phone with him, or put his phone on silent concealing any calls/text messages. DONT WORRY! Its needless stress because it sounds like nothing is going on. Stop being so nosy...you caused this drama and made yourself feel insecure and proved to you BF that you don't trust him and that you can not be trusted...Hopefully you'll learn your lesson from the fact that this is all eating you up inside...Communicate with your boyfriend and apologize for invading his privacy and try to respect his personal space from now on. Trust is earned. You broke the bond of trust by listening to his messages and you can't hold him responsible for your actions.

What's in this election for working singles & DINKs?
There is always so much focus on families and minorities during election campaigns but one thing that NEVER gets any attention is incentives for working singles or DINK (double-income, no kids) couples.
Frankly, it annoys me that I have a large tax bill and the costs of rent / living rising just the same as a family but I get none of the help from the Government.

My husband and I have worked all our life's, we have never been eligible for family allowance, we built our own homes, put our children thru the private education system, and in every election doesn't matter who wins there is never any real tax concessions for us, we are not wealthy, we are classed as upper middle class, my husband pays in taxes the equivalent to someones yearly wage there is next to nothing that he can claim so we are lucky if we don't have to pay more tax, we don't have any rental properties to make money off, I guess we are lucky in a sense the choices we have made and sacrificed so that our children could have a better life this far have been worth it, but to be honest the only people who benefit are the people in politics (there are a lot of people out there that send their children to private schools that sacrifice alot to do so I've just finished paying off my school fee's with my last child finishing school 12 months ago, wealthy? I think not)

This really is not an Presidential issue, the President must excecute the laws passed by the Congress and Senate. They can propose and support and veto, but they do not make the laws.
As a DINK (double income, no kids), I don't really think ';what's in it for me';. I'm concerned about everyone in society because I am a part of it - especially when it comes to education, the environment and sustainable resources - because I just want to live in a decent society where there is opportunity and long term hope for all. I don't care if I have a big tax bill just so long as it is not funding the war in Iraq, tax concessions for wealthy property investors and tax refunds for private schoolkid's parents.
I'd like to see a bit more of my tax money invested in the arts though. Give the kids some culture to grow up in :)

Yes they do change an enormous amount. Their face become more angular and the features more defined. Most guys I know became more handsome with age. (between 17-25 anyway ;o) Men are still growing then, although at a much slower rate. (A shorty won't become a tall guy but may get a couple of centimetres taller.)

This is my third child, and I've never had this procedure before. Both my boys were born early, at 37 %26amp; 38 weeks. I'm not dialated yet and all the other home remedies I used with my boys have not worked so far. I've heard this can be unforfortable, but then again, so is being 9 months pregnant! I had my membranes stripped at 38 and 39 weeks beacuase I wasn't dialating either. I didn't go into labour but that doesn't mean that you won't. My midwife said most people go into labour within 3 days if you don't by then its most likely not going to happen. It is uncomfortable for me it was like really bad period cramps. Personally I don't regret doing it even though it didn't work. People do a lot of other things such as castor oil, primrose tablets, ect..... Besides the doctor wouldn't do it if it wasn't safe and many do give you the option of stripping your membranes now at 38 weeks.I'm 38 weeks pregnant and getting my membrane stripped tomorrow. I had this done a couple of times with my second child. It hurts like a mother! It can force you into labor in about 48 hours, or can just cause contractions. I think the third time I had it done, it might have done the trick because I went into HARD labor the next day. But be prepared because it is not a fun procedure to go through. I am 5 weeks pregnant with our 3rd child and I don't know that I will have it done again. But I also know that when desperation kicks in, you try all the tricks!
once the doc stripps the membranes then you should go into labour. My sister had the same procedure with both her kids and they were long labours but it was just fine.
i never had it done but my friend did twice with her two kids. She said it made her cramp but no it was NOT painful. She went in labor with the 1st a few hours later the 2ed two days after. BTW it is better to try this 1st inducing meds will cause stronger contractions and it's always better to try to get things going naturally your doctor knows what he's doing don't listen to those who say otherwise they never went to med school and they have not been treating you for 9 months. every ones pain level is different i know for a fact getting meds to induse HURTS
It didn't work for me but my baby was way too big to pass through the birth canal. I hope it will work for you and since you know what to expect when you go in I will not go there. I went in for a regular visit on my due date hoping they would say I was in labor but I wasn't and the docotor just told me to relax. He didn't tell what he was doing or what to expect. I about came off the table and kicked his A**. So good luck and if you have to go through with this then I hope it will work for you.
To be honest, I question your decision to get your membranes stripped at 38 weeks. It will be a lot easier on you and on the baby to try to wait to go into labor naturally.
I had my membranes stripped at 42 weeks to try to induce labor. It was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced up until that moment in my whole life!
I know that the last two weeks are the hardest -- just hang in there! Drink lots of water, take lots of walks, relax. You'll have a baby in no time. In the meantime, don't try to rush nature.

Why on earth are you getting your membranes stripped? If there is nothing wrong then don't do it. Most reasonable doctors will wait until 42 weeks if all is OK.
Having your water broken will send you into labor! They may also add meds to help contract you if your not progressing fast enough! I never experienced discomfort.
I would wait until I was past my due date unless there was a medical reason to justify delivery before thee 40th week. I would also discuss my concerns with my doctor about doing this soley to bring on labor. Give your baby two more weeks to develop and come on its own, then discuss induction with your doctor. Once your membranes are stripped, you must deliver in 48 hours to prevent infection and risk to your child.
It depends on the person, It didn't work for me but it worked for a friend of mine.
Heck yes it works! My OB did that two weeks before due date, when my blood pressure spiked. It feels like an uncomfortable quick pelvic, and you want to punch out the doctor. I sure as heck did. But my contractions started within a few minutes, it went pretty smoothly.
well for some people it works. really its all according to if your body and the baby is ready.
I've only heard not so great things about this. There are other ways to induce labor that do not involve something invasive. It's uncomfortable and I've heard quite painful and doesn't always work.
Ask your doctor about natural induction methods. They include stimulating your nipples which releases oxytocin (naturally). Also semen applied to the cervix can ripen it...so try having sex and make sure the semen gets all the way back.

I had my membranes stripped at 38 and 39 weeks beacuase I wasn't dialating either. I didn't go into labour but that doesn't mean that you won't. My midwife said most people go into labour within 3 days if you don't by then its most likely not going to happen. It is uncomfortable for me it was like really bad period cramps. Personally I don't regret doing it even though it didn't work. People do a lot of other things such as castor oil, primrose tablets, ect..... Besides the doctor wouldn't do it if it wasn't safe and many do give you the option of stripping your membranes now at 38 weeks.I'm 38 weeks pregnant and getting my membrane stripped tomorrow. Anyone know if this will work or not?
I had this done a couple of times with my second child. It hurts like a mother! It can force you into labor in about 48 hours, or can just cause contractions. I think the third time I had it done, it might have done the trick because I went into HARD labor the next day. But be prepared because it is not a fun procedure to go through. I am 5 weeks pregnant with our 3rd child and I don't know that I will have it done again. But I also know that when desperation kicks in, you try all the tricks!
once the doc stripps the membranes then you should go into labour. My sister had the same procedure with both her kids and they were long labours but it was just fine.
i never had it done but my friend did twice with her two kids. She said it made her cramp but no it was NOT painful. She went in labor with the 1st a few hours later the 2ed two days after. BTW it is better to try this 1st inducing meds will cause stronger contractions and it's always better to try to get things going naturally your doctor knows what he's doing don't listen to those who say otherwise they never went to med school and they have not been treating you for 9 months. every ones pain level is different i know for a fact getting meds to induse HURTS
It didn't work for me but my baby was way too big to pass through the birth canal. I hope it will work for you and since you know what to expect when you go in I will not go there. I went in for a regular visit on my due date hoping they would say I was in labor but I wasn't and the docotor just told me to relax. He didn't tell what he was doing or what to expect. I about came off the table and kicked his A**. So good luck and if you have to go through with this then I hope it will work for you.
To be honest, I question your decision to get your membranes stripped at 38 weeks. It will be a lot easier on you and on the baby to try to wait to go into labor naturally.
I had my membranes stripped at 42 weeks to try to induce labor. It was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever experienced up until that moment in my whole life!
I know that the last two weeks are the hardest -- just hang in there! Drink lots of water, take lots of walks, relax. You'll have a baby in no time. In the meantime, don't try to rush nature.

Why on earth are you getting your membranes stripped? If there is nothing wrong then don't do it. Most reasonable doctors will wait until 42 weeks if all is OK.
Having your water broken will send you into labor! They may also add meds to help contract you if your not progressing fast enough! I never experienced discomfort.
I would wait until I was past my due date unless there was a medical reason to justify delivery before thee 40th week. I would also discuss my concerns with my doctor about doing this soley to bring on labor. Give your baby two more weeks to develop and come on its own, then discuss induction with your doctor. Once your membranes are stripped, you must deliver in 48 hours to prevent infection and risk to your child.
It depends on the person, It didn't work for me but it worked for a friend of mine.
Heck yes it works! My OB did that two weeks before due date, when my blood pressure spiked. It feels like an uncomfortable quick pelvic, and you want to punch out the doctor. I sure as heck did. But my contractions started within a few minutes, it went pretty smoothly.
well for some people it works. really its all according to if your body and the baby is ready.
I've only heard not so great things about this. There are other ways to induce labor that do not involve something invasive. It's uncomfortable and I've heard quite painful and doesn't always work.
Ask your doctor about natural induction methods. They include stimulating your nipples which releases oxytocin (naturally). Also semen applied to the cervix can ripen it...so try having sex and make sure the semen gets all the way back.

Yeh i find this difficult. As someone who's generally achieved well in school I always feel the pressure to continue on academic and career focused pursuits. I find it difficult now how most the workplaces in teh UK just don't have any ethics or morals. Everyone lies and cheats to get where they're at and people just have abortions to get further in their career. In some ways I wish i was a young parent, at least then i'd feel i'd be focused on something that's worthwhile! I hate how work gets in the way of our wellbeing and personal lives more and more as time goes on. Work and education should be used to better society or provide/help someone else's life, whether it be children, partner, community etc, not for personal greed and want of money. I cant wait until the day I finally have children to look after!Why is this society so obsessed with work and college? isnt family important anymore?

Whether they should have more kids when they have to work long hours is another question entirely. But the kids that are alive have to be cared for and fed somehow.
In reality to support a baby into adulthood takes lots of money. If you go to college helps to get a good job. If you want to raise a family you have to look at the broader picture of financing the family. The days of dreaming of being a stay at home mom are not reality if the income is not there.
The occidental elite does not want more babies. This elite wants only good workers. For them the world is overpopulated and they do not want changes in their style of life. They control through the media the public opinion.
Babies are a pain in the butt and they smell. Nobody wants to change a poo filled diaper and listen to some wrinkly little brat cry all day (waaah I'm hungry, etc). That is what day care centers are for.
People have been turned into commodities and have to gain value in the job market.

Answer: let x be the side along the river and y be the perpendicular side. Then x +2y=200

One guy incorrectly told you that a square will always have the maximum area for a quadrilateral. That is true if you are fencing all 4 sides, but it is not true here.
There is a neat fact that makes this problem really easy though. If you think of the square, where half the perimeter is used up by the lengths and half is used up by the widths, the same thing will still happen in this rectangle where you are only fencing 3 sides. Half of the fence or 100 feet is the length of the side parallel the river while the other half of the fence is split in 2 for the 2 sides going to the riverbank. Therefore 200/2 = 100 is the length and 100/2 = 50 is each width. This produces the maximum area.
Suppose instead you were making 4 equal sized dog pens up against the side of a kennel so you have to fence one side parallel to the kennel and make 5 walls total that are perpendicular to the kennel to split the pens and enclose the dogs. If you have 300 feet of fence you would use half of it or 150 feet for the side parallel the kennel. the other 150 feet is divided into 5 walls of 30 feet each out away from the kennel. This means the overall area is 150 x 30 or 4500 square feet. Suppose you made the length 160 feet instead. then the other 140 feet divided for 5 walls is 28 feet each. Yes, but I don't think is a balanced diet at all. You're going to crave a lot more carbs if you're exercising that much. Fruits do have a lot of sugar, and sugars turn into fats in your body. But different kinds of sugar turn into different kinds of fat. Fruit sugars mostly turn into good usable fats. Don't over-do the fruit, but it is still an important part of a healthy diet. so long as you stay away from white bread and pop and juice (unless it's 100% fruit juice and not-from-concentrate) this should be a good way to lose weight.
