The lady is an older White lady, I am Mexican American, we happened to be talking about a pregnant coworker, and she started on how things were different now with all the illegal aliens coming in and she said all Mexican women are fat and have a bunch of kids and try to make it right by saying religion is against taking the pill.
Are here comments prejudice or racist in nature and should I just leave it alone, no one hear, but it did make me uncomfortable. What our employer do to this lady for making these inappropriate racial comments at work?
She is old and will be dead soon, dont burden yourself with others stupidity, you should thank her for teaching you how not to beWhat our employer do to this lady for making these inappropriate racial comments at work?
No,,,,just normal day in a white young woman,,,,,,please,,,dont start.
They are not only racist and prejudice, they are also very inappropriate and unprofessional of her. I suggest you first ask her politely to please stop with the rude comments and if that does not work, begin documenting her comments and acquiring witnesses. When you have enough, take it to either your boss or hers. She is doing nothing more than creating a hostile environment and it should not be tolerated.
Maybe she was having a bad day. But that doesn't excuse what she said. So document the conversation for your own purposes. Date/time, what was said. If any thing similar happens again, then go to your supervisor (or HR). That kind of talk is not appropriate in the work place and she should be talked to by those in authority.
Wow thats pretty harsh! Does she know your Mexican? I mean do you look more Mexican or caucasian? I would talk to her and just mention that you were thinking about her comment and it bothered you, and could she please just not say things like that. I would only go to the boss about it only if she continues with this, or gives you attitude for bringing it up. My guess is that she just wasnt thinking, and didnt realize her comment was hurtful to you. For all you know she is sitting at home totally embarrassed about what she said!
